Zoey Sophia Pápay placed in TOP 5 in European Championship 2022 in Scotland

The European Championship 2022 took place in Scotland on May 31- June 2, 2022. In the age group Girls under 8 years Slovakia was also represented by the young golf hope Zoey Sophia Pápay. The typical Scottish weather alternating between rain, clouds, sun and wind at the temperature of 9- 12 degrees was a big test for everyone. Already during practice rounds, when the speed of the fairways and greens was different every day due to the weather, no one had any doubt that the fight for the European throne will be big challenge. For Zoey Sophia this would be first encounter with such conditions. Already on the first day, she showed her undeniable golfing talent, when she played -1 on rainy and cold weather and she was only one shot behind the current leader. A slight hesitation on the 2nd day of competition, when she paid for the treacherous and deep Scottish bankers, took her away from the fight for the first place, but a sustained 2nd place kept her in an excellent position for the overall placement. Unfortunately, a mistake on already 1st hole on the last day of play, when she lost 4 shots in the banker, costed her a move in the interim ranking. A heroic performance at the end of the round and 5 pars on the last five holes eventually secured her a TOP 5 placement, with just one shot away from third place overall.

We congratulate Zoey Sophia on the excellent representation of Slovak golf. We believe that the experience she gained can be used for other tournaments and that she will offer us many more experiences for important European and World events.
